Hunger Action Month is dedicated to the men, women and children who face hunger and food insecurity every day:

38 million Americans  are food insecure.

13 million American children live in poverty and often go without enough to eat.

While this struggle is happening across the nation, it is very serious here in Georgia:

  • Over a million people in Georgia, and more than 20% of our children, live in poverty.
  • More than one in every ten senior citizens in Georgia is at risk for hunger.

Simple Abundance Cooking Class, $55

New Flavors from the Old Fourth Ward
featuring Chef Jay Swift of 4th & Swift

Chef Swift’s passion and creative interpretation of seasonal comfort food is highlighted in this class. The menu includes Crab Cake with crackers, ripe tomato and chive remoulade, Arugula Salad with parmesan beignets, braised beets and white balsamic vinaigrette, Seared George’s Bank Diver Scallops with Spring pea risotto and ginger-carrot broth; and Cream Puffs with vanilla ice cream and chocolate cognac sauce. Monday, September 15 – Sunday, September 21, special dinner rates apply

Concentrics Restaurants and CBS 46 Launch Atlanta Wine Week

Concentrics Restaurants have partnered with CBS 46 and Baker Action Marketing to give Atlantans the opportunity to learn about wine and food pairings in a fun and approachable way with the first annual Wine Week Atlanta.  Guests are invited to dine at various Concentrics Restaurants and enjoy special prix fixe menus and wine tastings while having first-hand experience with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank in recognition of Hunger Action Month. 

TROIS, Murphy’s, Lobby at TWELVE and Room at TWELVE will offer diners a three-course lunch for $25, complete with six wine tastings.  Guests can still opt to indulge in the six-wine tasting by itself, or with a la carte menu items, for just $10.  For dinner selections, guests will savor a four-course meal with eight wine tastings for $43 at Murphy’s and Lobby and $53 at ONE.midtown kitchen, TWO urban licks, TROIS, PARISH and Room.  If diners prefer to order a la carte, or simply want to sample the wines alone, they can enjoy eight wines for $18 or 14 wines for $20.  Each restaurant will also have winemakers and representatives from the wineries present at both lunch and dinner to answer questions, help explain what foods go with which wines, and engage both wine connoisseurs and novices alike in an interactive wine experience.  Wines will include California favorites such as Louis M. Martini, Perrier Jouet Champagne, Brancott, Mumm Napa and Penfolds.

Fill-Up @ The Food Bank, free and open to the public

Donating food, volunteering at the Food Bank, family fun activities, Food Bank tours, and gardening advice are all part of this fun-filled Saturday event!  Stop by with nonperishable food donations and fill the Food Bank shelves. Participants will take home some great ways to fight hunger.  Food contributors will receive a complimentary recyclable grocery tote for their donations.

The Craft of Pickling, Curing and Preserving
Featuring Chef Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House

Whether a pro, novice or just curious about how each is done, this class will definitely prove to be quite informative as Chef Hopkins instructs the class in not only how to pickle, cure and preserve certain food items, but also how to incorporate those items into final dishes. Students will learn how to pickle vegetables to prepare Old Fashioned Chow Chow for Heirloom Tomato Salad with Chow Chow and Fresh Chevre; cure hog jowl to make Italian guanciale for Late Harvest Sweet Skillet Corn with Guanciale and Charred Onions; and preserve peaches for Brandy Preserved ‘End of Summer’ Georgia Peaches with Shortcake and Clabbered Cream. Evening includes wine tastings sponsored by Sherlock’s Wine Merchant and a chance to win tasty door prizes provided by Atlanta Beverage, Bella Cucina Artful Foods, Cabot Cheese and Via Elisa Authentic Fresh Pasta.
